Dr Jenny Fitzgerald and Dr Clare Rosoman
Emotion Focused Couples Therapy
Jenny Fitzgerald and Clare Rosoman are EFT certified couples therapists and supervisors and will present an overview of Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. EFT for Couples is one of only two approaches to couples therapy recognised by the APA as empirically validated. In their presentation, key principles and steps of the EFT model will be described and the three change events (identified by process research) will be outlined. Clinical work will be discussed and questions and discussion will be welcomed.
DR JENNIFER FITZGERALD
Jenny is a Clinical Psychologist and Member of the College of Clinical Psychologists of the Australian Psychological Society. She completed a PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Queensland in 2005, supervised by adult attachment theorist Judith Feeney. Jenny works in private practice in Brisbane where she treats couples with relationship distress or sexual dysfunction and individuals with mental health disorders. She also teaches at the University of Queensland, coordinating programs in clinical communication skills for medical students and sex and couple therapy for clinical psychology graduate students. Jenny is the first Australian clinician to be certified by the International Centre for Excellence in EFT (Ottawa) as an Emotionally-focused Couples Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer. She greatly admires the EFT model and says that finding EFT in the academic literature years ago was a memorable event, like discovering gold. She has coedited two textbooks for medical students and doctors, Communication skills in medicine and Psychosocial dimensions in medicine (published IP Communications, Melbourne) and is the co-author (with Veronica Kallos- Lilly) of An Emotionally Focused Workbook for Couples: The Two Of Us, published by Routledge in August 2014.
DR CLARE ROSOMAN
Clare is a Clinical Psychologist and member of the College of Clinical Psychologists of the Australian Psychological Society. She completed her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology at Griffith University in 2001 and has worked in a variety of clinical settings from non-government organisations, schools, hospitals and her own private practice. She is the author of two books for therapists. Therapy to Go: Gourmet Fast Food Handouts for working with Adult Clients and Therapy to Go: Gourmet Fast Food Handouts for working with Child and Family Clients. Clare has been mentored by Dr Jennifer Fitzgerald and Dr Veronica Kallos-Lilly to become the second certified EFT couples therapist and supervisor in Australia. Clare works in private practice in Brisbane, Australia where she almost exclusively sees couples and sex therapy clients. She is interested in integrating EFT and sex therapy, and utilising the transformative power of attachment in psychotherapy. Clare and Jenny have established the Australian Centre for EFT (www.aceft.com.au) and the first and only EFT couples therapy training and mentoring program in Australia to assist therapists in becoming ICEEFT certified EFT practitioners.
