Abstract

Beyond Blue have recently published results from a national survey indicating that, while antenatal and postnatal mental health difficulties were common (more than 1/7 women), they were widely misunderstood by the public. Alarmingly, they also found that the current healthcare system is not effectively monitoring and treating the symptoms of PND. This seminar will focus on the psychologist’s role in treating PND including how to identify the early warning signs for antenatal and postnatal difficulties in both fathers and mothers. Effective, evidence-based treatment approaches will also be discussed.
