Biography – Emma Kitching

Emma is a bubbly and compassionate psychologist who has experiences working with people from a range of different backgrounds. She works using a person-centred approach, and she is eager to help her clients to identify their strengths in order to achieve lasting, positive changes. Emma is passionate about evidence-based practice and believes that therapy should always be feedback-informed, meaning that sessions are adjusted throughout treatment to best suit the unique needs and preferences of the individual.

Emma enjoys working with older adolescence (16+) and adults and she has a special interest in working with couples. Outside of Benchmark, she works in a public hospital helping individuals manage their complex health concerns and the mental health challenges that are commonly associated. Through this work, she has developed a passion for helping individuals to build resilience during times of significant life adjustment (for example, after severe health diagnoses or following parenthood). She also has a keen interest in working holistically to address health concerns such as weight gain, smoking, and sleep.

She uses various therapeutic approaches to inform treatment, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), Emotion Focussed Therapy (including Emotion Focussed Couples Therapy) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). She is an LGBTIQA+ Ally and her pronouns are she/her.
