Biography – Shameta Siva
Shameta is a provisionally registered psychologist completing her Masters in Clinical Psychology and hoping to assist children, adolescents, and adults struggling with psychological distress. Previous to this, Shameta had completed her honours and bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
Shameta adopts a warm, empathetic, and collaborative approach to her practice. She values providing clients with a non-judgemental space to feel accepted, safe, and valued in order to reduce distress and ease the recovery process. Shameta applies a scientist-practitioner approach to her practice by drawing upon a range of current evidence-based treatment and research. These include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Schema Therapy. Her idiographic approach to therapy and flexible nature ensures patient-centred care. Shameta tailors evidence-based treatments to suit clients’ individual needs, nature, and presentations. She also uses diagnostic, behavioural, and familial patterns to create a holistic understanding of the client and form a plan of action.
Her work experience ranges from NHS hospitals in the UK, to private multidisciplinary centres in Malaysia, to community psychology centres, private hospitals, and Queensland Health hospitals in Australia. These experiences enabled her to build strong therapeutic bonds with clients through compassion, open-mindedness, and cultural awareness when working across various contexts and populations.
